Research (translated into English):
(2012 – 2013) – Strengthening of knowledge, information organization, and development of tools to support the Watershed Environmental Services Payment Program in rural areas .
Payment for Environmental Services (PES) is an economic instrument to compensate those who work in support of environmental conservation, beyond mere compliance with the rule of law, especially small farmers. Interventions required the creation of an evaluation methodology that integrates socio-economic and environmental factors, and appropriate monitoring of the impacts of PES programs.
(2012- 2013) – Landscape Indicators for Subsidizing the Land Use Planning and the characterization of Environmental Services.
The project aimed to support the transition process to agro-ecological production systems. The participatory research tool was used as support for the construction of knowledge through interaction between the new technologies and the traditional knowledge of the farmers.
(2010 – 2013) – Assessment of Economic, Social and Environmental Impacts Promoted by the Land Use Planning and the Characterization of Environmental Services.
The impact assessment addressed the economic, social and environmental aspects. The objective was to evaluate, together with the local farmers, the results of technological innovations suggested by the project, in order to measure these results with an emphasis on its user/beneficiaries, to provide support to the continuous improvement of the participatory construction of knowledge.
(2008 – 2011) – Social and Economic Assessment of Agro-ecological transition processes in the Mountainous Region of Rio de Janeiro.
This activity was developed from a survey of the production costs concerning the production systems commonly used by farmers, concurrently with the production systems in which they have incorporated technological innovations from the agro-ecological transition processes. It was established a dialogue with farmers in relation to those questions, in order to find feasible solutions within the frame of the participatory research.
(2006 – 2007) – Cities, Quality of Life and Water Resources: Integrated Management of Water Resources and Urban Planning.
The general objectives of this research project were integrated into issues related to the rationalization of water use, social inclusion in urban and periurban areas, and the improvement of the quality of life in a context of sustainable development. The research was developed in a participatory and integrated approach with the local communities in the research areas.
(2003 – 2005) – Participatory Management of the Sub-basin of Santo Domingos River, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil .
The research project consisted of integrated and participatory actions with the communities of the sub-basin, through the mobilization of communities within the frame of a participatory research, ushering the awareness of local families concerning the importance of solving the problems of the community. The project supported the empowerment of the local communities towards finding their own solutions to their problems, which sought to break with a patronage culture.
(2000 – 2002) – Recovery of Degraded Areas of Atlantic Forest, in the Discovery Coast through the Implementation of Sustainable Production Systems.
As is often occur, the human action without planning has negative impacts, and becomes unsustainable. It is essential to the implementation of alternative production systems to the predatory activities aimed at reconciling environmental conservation with increased quality of life in communities. Given the planning of sustainable development, we tried to, with the communities, carry out the activities in a participatory research context.
